Meet Your Board

Shirlee Jeyes

I have been a co-owner in Caravans since 1997. Initially, I was a summer resident living in an RV on Site 133. Now I enjoy the year-round experience that a four-season Park Model offers. I have always referred to Caravans West as my happy place. I love this park and have made many family memories here.
My work experience is varied and includes twenty years as a Teacher and Principal at schools in the Nass Valley and later Clinton and Cache Creek. Prior to that I was employed as a Laboratory Assistant and a Cardiology Technologist.
My husband Jack and I also have a home in Ashcroft where we spend roughly half of our winter. Between us, we have 6 children and several grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
I have served on the Caravans Board of Directors since 2016. During this time, I have taken an active role as Secretary, Vice President, and as Board Liaison to the Policy Committee. Currently, I serve as President and Liaison to the Playground Committee.

Gloria McNabb

I have lived in the Park since 2004, and have served on the Board of Directors collectively for a total of 15  years.

I’ve also been a member of the Policy Committee to help clarify and/or purge some of the rules in the Park. We are hoping to make it easier for Co-owners to understand the rules and to understand why we need rules.

This Park has been my full time home for over 18 years and it is my favourite place to be. I love it here and am determined to keep it as precious as it is, and to help it live up to the reputation that has so many flocking to buy in here.

Jeff Christian

I was born in Calgary, raised mostly in Saskatchewan, married to Donna in 1970 (and am still being tolerated by her). I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1972. We are parents of three children, all now married with their own families. We’ve moved a bit, Saskatoon to Edson, to Edmonton, to Yellowknife, to Winnipeg, to Saskatoon, to Edmonton and then to Langley where we have been since 1992.

We joined Caravans West in 2020 with the purchase of Lot 358; and in 2022, sold that to purchase Lot 58. We have come to thoroughly appreciate what a great place Caravans West is and feel fortunate to have discovered it when we did. We previously owned a similar property in Birch Bay for ten years.

My career background is in the criminal justice system, I would describe myself as a criminalist, an executive level manager, and a human rights champion. Donna is a retired career trauma/emergency nurse.

After retirement at age 50 in 1999, I formed my own consulting company which evolved into an international role as a human rights champion working within the correctional systems of emerging democracies. I worked primarily (under contract) with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from Lund, Sweden, first in Indonesia from 2004-2013, and then in Kenya from 2011-2018. Over the years I also made smaller stops in Sudan, South Sudan, Costa Rica, the West Bank (Ramallah), Thailand, Cambodia, the Maldives, Uganda, and Burundi.

Along the way I have been a member of a number of boards, often related to corrections activities. I have contracted with over a hundred of such boards throughout my career and have become familiar with how they operate.

I hope to bring these various skills to the table to support the work of the Board as it continues to serve the membership of Caravans West.

 Caravans is my permanent home.

I moved here full time four years ago from northern BC where I owned my own business.  I owned and operated a full service hotel as well as a Beer Store.

I have been on the Board of Directors for the last three years, and I am enjoying the many challenges that brings.  I believe that my many years in business aid me in bringing different ideas and solutions to the Board as we move forward.

So, A little about me.

I was born and raised in community just outside Thunder Bay Ontario. During High School, I joined the military to broaden my horizons and expand my life experiences. I served 8 years with the Military, while also joining Ontario Forest Service as an initial attack fire fighter. Between traveling fighting fire and the Military I managed to go to Confederation College for Pre-Technology Program. Then Later to Texas A&M University for a Structural Fire Fighters program and certification.

With My fire training, I took I job with the BC Forest service in Fort St John BC. I trained for the Parattack smoke jumper initial Attack fire crew. Who doesn’t want to parachute out of an airplane into a fire!

During that time, I took a crew supervisors position with the Rhino unit crew. I got to travel to the United States and across our country to deal with the Fires we all have come to know and hate. I moved to an office tech position with the fire service and managed crews, training, reports, expenditures, air operations, active fires, equipment and much more.

After 15 years of firefighting, I decided to move into a more stable job and went to Justice Institute of BC for the Deputy Sheriff Readiness program. I worked in Fort St John BC and maintained court security, prisoner transport and detention, shot guns and learned a lot about the Laws we all love to abide by.

I always had a mechanical inclination, so I thought what’s one more time. I left my job with the court services and went back to school yet again. I obtained my Millwrights ticket and started work in the oil patch for a service company. I was active in the company’s safety program and teaching of new employees. While doing rebuilds on pumps, compressors, turbines and whatever else we were asked to do. I developed many maintenance programs and critical spares list for large oil companies.

With all that work in my past. My lovely wife and I decided to do an early retirement. Her family has had a place in Caravans for 18 years and we’ve been coming down for vacation now for the last few years. So, we decided why not make this home. We now have been full time Caravanners for the last year and half.

I probably won’t retire yet; I still have lots of good years left to learn and gather more skills.

I have joined the Board, sat in with the Planning committee and Social committee and hope that my skills and wide range of knowledge with help aid caravans to the future.
